The Everglades habitat supports endangered species such as the Florida panther and the American crocodile. The Florida Everglades is complex, but it is precisely this complexity that makes the area so beautiful. However, the "River of Grass" is much smaller than measured in previous years.Ĭonstruction and associated irrigation schemes have damaged as much as half of the wetland area. Lake Okeechobee's water trickles from North to South, creating a slow-moving river sixty miles wide and a hundred miles long. Flame we great and if you are in the area, please take the time to book a tour as you will not be disappointed. Small groups up to 6 people can fit on the airboat which is one of the reasons why we chose Alligator Cove for a private type feel. Definitely great value, even includes a souvenir photo of us (one per couple) which is almost never included in excursions. It does not have all that touristy stuff that is with many of these places, no gift shop, just feels like coming to a campground and hoping on an airboat with friends. Plenty of bald eagles were perched high in the trees and even wild cows roaming the wetlands. We were able to spot a couple baby gators and a very large one as well. He was friendly and accommodating which made the airboat ride relaxing. Flame is very chill and knows the waters like the back of his hand. They even take a picture of your tour group which they print on site and email to you for free.įound this excursion/tour on Google and so glad we did! Cpt. In addition to being a great tour, they charge a fair price for their services, which is not true of some of the other options I looked into. They even know where to find baby gators.įlame was really kind to our 6 year-old, putting him right up front and letting him "drive" the boat once we parked at the dock. They are visiting the locations multiple times per day, so there is not much guess work, which makes the trip really great. They are not guessing where to go to find the wildlife. They know right were to find all the wildlife you hope to see and tell you other interesting facts about the region. It seems everyone involved with the operation has spent their lives in the area, so I don't think you can go wrong with any of their captains. The trip was great and the captain of our tour, Flame, was as good as everyone had said in the posts that I read prior to booking. I knew it was a long shot, but was able grab a spot for our party of three. After reading reviews on this and other sites, I called to see if I could get a tour the same day.
